The IPS officers are also recruited through the same exam, but they have to opt for the IPS instead of the IAS as their preferred service.

  4. Rank Structure: The rank structure of the IAS and IPS is different. The highest rank in the IAS is that of the Cabinet Secretary, while the highest rank in the IPS is Director General of Police (DGP).
  5. Transfer Policy: The transfer policy of IAS and IPS officers is different. IAS officers are transferred between departments and states regularly, while IPS officers are transferred to different police stations or districts.
